Weak Spots come in two varieties: Physical [P], and Social [S].
Physical Weak Spots are places that can be struck to inflict more damage or cause status effects.
Social Weak Spots are aspects of an NPC that may be discovered and exploited to gain a social edge over them.
There are no limits to the number of Weak Spots a creature can have.
Most creatures (and some objects) have various [P] Weak Spots on them that can be learned through study, NPCs, or the Glean Weakness General Education Power. Even if you are aware of a target’s [P] Weak Spots, you cannot hit it without making a Called Attack.
- When you successfully strike a [P] Weak Spots, your target takes damage as if it were one step weaker to that type – this turns Immunities into Double Resistance.
- You cannot hit the same [P] Weak Spots more than once with a single attack, but hitting multiple [P] Weak Spots on a target with a single attack makes them even weaker to that type.
- Some [P] Weak Spots have additional qualities upon being hit or can only be hit by certain attacks, and are denoted in parenthesis. For example, a Pidgey’s Weak Spot is its Axillary Region (Slowed until Downtime), while a Rhydon’s Weak Spot is its Horn (Electric Special attacks only) and Eyes (Blinded, Enraged while Blinded).
All creatures (including PCs!) have [S] Weak Spots that can be learned through study, NPCs, or the Tell Me About Yourself Charm Power. Unlike [P] Weak Spots, [S] Weak Spots may be exploited without having knowledge of them.
- [S] Weak Spots are Social Skills that the NPC is especially vulnerable to, for whatever reason. For example, the [S] Weak Spot Cowardly (Intimidate) indicates that the NPC is rather cowardly and scares easily.
- When you successfully strike a [S] Weak Spot, you gain a 2 + Your Tier bonus to your check.
- Some [S] Weak Spots are more specific, and function similarly to Skill Stunts in their specificity. These are marked with a ★. For example, the [S] Weak Spot ★ Loves Redheads (Charm) indicates that the NPC is vulnerable to the wiles of another, but only if they have red hair.
- When you successfully strike a [S] Weak Spot ★, you gain a 4 + (Your Tier x 2) bonus to your check, double that of a regular [S] Weak Spot.
