It’s a sad situation, but sometimes it happens – your time together with your Pokémon is coming to an end. Hopefully this was voluntary for both parties…
To release your Pokémon, just let it out of its Pokéball and leave it there. After a month of not being near its ball, your Pokéball will deactivate and someone else will be able to catch it. Alternately, you can go to a Pokémon Center to manually deactivate the Pokéball and let them release it in a secure location.
- Pokémonare capable of letting themselves out of their Pokéballs, and Pokémon with low Loyalty may do this in an attempt to escape. However, this is relevant for more unsavory situations. In the event that a Trainer dies suddenly in the wilderness, then their Pokémon will release themselves and mourn their fallen friend.
- This event is traumatic for the Pokémon and it isn’t hard to tell when a wild Pokémon is free because of it. This can be done with the Assess Situation Power, and you get a +4 bonus in this situation.
Seriously, don’t catch Pokémon that you don’t intend to take care of! Releasing Pokémon that don’t want to be released is monstrous, and you’d better hope nobody finds out you’ve done it.
