- Pokémon share the same XP chart as Trainers and level up the same way – through completing Goals that you have agreed upon with your GM. XP can also be given out for excellent roleplaying, but the whole table should come to an agreement first.
- Levelling up is a Downtime Action, as the creature goes through a process of testing its newfound power and becoming comfortable with its new limits. When levelling up, you spend (10 x Tier) XP to do so.
- When your Pokémon gains a Level:
- It gains +1 Stat Point in every stat.
- It may learn a Move from its Natural Move List that is of its Tier or below.
- It may Evolve, if applicable. Be sure to check its new Move and Capability lists.
- When your Pokémon gains a Tier:
- The Stat bonus from its Nature increases by 3.
- STAB attacks deal +3 damage; CS changes ± 3 points.
- It gains +1 Skill Rank.
- It learns a new Ability.
Evolution
- Evolution is a powerful and drastic change for most Pokémon. When this happens, take the new form’s Base Stats, apply the Pokémon’s Nature again, reapply any Vitamins that were used, then add +1 Stat Point per level to every Stat.
- Next, check Abilities and Moves. Abilities change to match the Ability in the same spot in the Evolution’s Ability List. When Pokémon evolve, they can immediately learn any Moves that their new form learns that their previous form could not, assuming they are your Tier or lower. For example, Snorlax could learn Yawn and Belly Drum.
- Last, check the Pokémon’s Skills and Capabilities and update them for the evolved form.
Special Evolution Types
Mega Evolution is a combat form that is only available to Pokémon that cannot evolve any further. They must be holding a Mega Stone, and their Trainer must be wearing a Mega Ring. Mega forms are exaggerated versions of the original Pokémon, for better and for worse.
- Mega Evolution is the ultimate union between Trainer and Pokémon! Only Pokémon that are at least Loyalty 5 towards their Trainers can Mega Evolve.
- When a Pokémon Mega Evolves, it receives +10 stat points overall (not to HP), gains a new Ability, and possibly a new secondary Type or Capability. You can either apply the changes directly to your Pokémon’s Stats as if they were points applied from Level Up, or you can apply the changes to their Base Stats and keep a second sheet of stats for your Pokémon’s Mega Evolved form. If you do so, similar to Darmanitan’s Zen Mode, you must keep the HP Stat in both forms the same.
- Mega Evolution can be triggered on either the Pokémon or Trainer’s Start Phase as a Swift Action. Once triggered, Mega Evolution lasts for 30 minutes, even if the Pokémon is knocked out. A Mega Ring can only support one Mega Evolution at a time.
- Mega Stones may not be removed from their users once Mega Evolution has been activated.
Primal Reversion is a special form only available to Pokémon that cannot evolve any further. When the various Legendary Pokémon created the world countless years ago, they imbued much of their true power into the world itself, reverting them to the state they are in today. Primal Orbs allow regular Pokémon to tap into this energy to achieve a new state. The Pokémon must be holding a Primal Orb to activate Primal Reversion.
- When a Pokémon Primal Reverts, it receives +6 Skill Points overall, gains a powerful Unique Ability, 3 new Capabilities, and possibly a new secondary Type. Legendary Pokémon also gain +10 stat points as if they had Mega Evolved. You can either apply the changes directly to your Pokémon’s Skills as if they were points applied from Tiering Up, or you can keep a second sheet of stats for your Pokemon’s Primal form.
- Primal Reversion can be triggered as an Interrupt Action. Primal Reversion lasts 24 hours, or until the Pokémon is Fainted or recalled. Once this state has ended, non-Legendary Pokémon must wait 24 hours before they can enter it again.
- Primal Orbs may not be removed from their users once Primal Reversion has been activated.
Mega Evolution and Primal Reversion are mutually exclusive. You cannot send a Pokémon into a “Mega Primal” form.
Generational Gimmicks
Dynamaxing is an enlarging form available to any Pokémon. Their Trainer simply needs to be wearing a Dynamax Band. However, it takes an extreme amount of energy and lasts 5 minutes, immediately ending if the Pokémon is knocked out. Once used, a Dynamax Band takes 24 hours to recharge, and must be charged before it can be used for the first time. This Band draws energy from both the Trainer and their surroundings, so switching out Bands has no effect.
- When a Pokémon Dynamaxes, it receives +10 stat points to HP and becomes Gigantic Size, changing its Size Modifier. Gigantic creatures gain +12 Max Health per Tier and +5 to all Movement Capabilities. It also immediately gets 30 Health + 12 Health per Tier.
- All of a Dynamaxed Pokémon’s attacks deal +5 Damage per Tier. Watch out!
- All HP-based effects use the Pokémon’s regular Max HP, not its Dynamaxed Max HP.
- Dynamaxed Pokémon are immune to any Disabled Status, attacks with the Execute or Weighty keyword, and the moves Destiny Bond and Transform. They cannot be forced to switch out.
Terastallization is a type-changing phenomenon available to any Pokémon, if their Trainer is holding a Tera Orb and has a Tera Jewel in their inventory. Every Pokémon has a Tera Type, chosen at random (except for Ogerpon, who cannot change its Tera Type). The Terastallized State only lasts 5 minutes, immediately ending if the Pokémon is knocked out. Once used, a Tera Orb takes 24 hours to be recharged, or can be recharged at a Pokémon Center.
- Once Terastallized, a Pokémon’s defensive Types are changed to its Tera Type, removing all other Types.
- Terastallized Pokémon receive STAB on attacks matching their Tera Type, and keep STAB from their original Type(s).
- If the Pokémon’s Tera Type is the same as one of its original Type(s), STAB increases to +6 per Tier extra damage. This can stack with the Adaptability Ability, resulting in +9 per Tier extra damage.
- A Terastallized Pokémon cannot have its type changed in any way, even when using the Transform move.
Dynamaxing and Terastallization are mutually exclusive. You cannot have a Dyna-Tera monstrosity form.
